Description
  • Results of reinterpretation of seismic measurements in the southern part of the Mnichovo Hradiště Basin and the adjacent south-eastern tip of the Mšeno-Roudnice Basin provide new perspectives for the interpretation of their geological structure and development. Horizontally bedded Upper Cretaceous platform sediments about 400-500 m thick are evidently underlain by Upper Paleozoic and Ordovician deposits as much as 2,200 m and to the N of the area under study even more thick, accompanied by rocks of the Upper Proterozoic basement. The major structures are the Sukorady depression, a half-graben located in the western part of the Mnichovo Hradiště Basin, that is separated from the eastern part of the basin by a zone of the tectonic flexure, and the Luštěnice elevation of apparently WNW-ESE strike. The axis of the Sukorady depression runs approx. NW-SE and its vertical throw increases from 300-400 m, as measured at the Seletice-1 borehole, up to ca 1,800 m in the area between the towns of Mladá Boleslav and Sobotka. The western and northern boundaries of the depression are not clear, while the southern boundary is formed by the Luštěnice elevation, the horst-like structure of which is marked by an uplift of at least 1,000 m. A younger discordant sedimentary sequence transitional to the Lower Permian occurs within the Sukorady depression.
