Description	Toute étude historique simplifie la réalité. Que ce fait soit souhaitable ou non, l'historien est censé choisir parmi la multiplicité des faits et envisager leur hiérarchie, voire leur classement selon quelques tendances appréhendées comme décisives pour l'époque étudiée. Il en va de même pour l'histoire de l'art qui, en tant que recherche théorique d'une image d'ensemble, nécessite une sélection des images. Puisque cette sélection précède l'écriture, il s'agit d'une opération d'encadrement qui se fait a priori et qui détermine l'écriture de manière essentielle. L'article propose de réfléchir a ce problème en s'attachant plus particulièrement aux problématiques de la photographie documentaire, saisie en tant qu'image censée porter deux messages différents a la fois : factuel et fétiche, politique et esthétique. Par la présentation de deux cas exemplaires de photographies clandestines ayant %22survécu%22 malgré un décret d'élimination - celui de la période de normalisation en Slovaquie d'un côté, et celui des camps d'extermination nazis d'un autre côté -, l'article propose de mettre en évidence les enjeux de la stratégie de sélection qui a attribué a ces épreuves le statut d'images interdites. The paper focuses on the strategies of selection of the documentary photographs used by historians and theorists of art. By presenting the double exemple of the treatement of the illegal documentary photographs that %22survived%22 the official elimination - typical for the Nazi camps of extermination during the Second World War on one hand, and for the socialist censorship of the period of Normalisation in Slovakia on the other hand - the article shows how the three strategies of selection were applied: exclusion, delimitation, affirmation. The selection of photographs is approached as a strategy od representation that is based on our way of recalling the past: as shown by G. Didi-Huberman, it can be finally defined as an act of fetishism, revealing in this current practice of history of art several totalitarian aspects. (en)
