Description
  • There is only little evidence about altered sensitivity of steatotic liver to acute toxic injury. The aim of this project was to compare acute toxic effect of a model hepatotoxin thioacetamide (100 mg/ kg) on intact rat liver and rat liver affected by high-fat diet-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Serum biochemical parameters (ALT, AST, ALP, and bilirubin) and TNFalpha, hepatic IL-6 and TGFbeta1 and centrilobular necrosis with subsequent regenerative response of the liver were significantly higher in high-fat diet fed rats after thioacetamide administration. Steatotic rat liver, compared to non-steatotic liver, is more sensitive to acute toxic effect of thioacetamide.
