| - Visual evoked potentials (VEPs) to pattern-reversal and motion stimulation as well as visual cognitive potentials (ERPs) were examined in 17 patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer disease before onset of Memantin treatment and after 3 and 6 months of Memantine therapy. The electrophysiological tests were able to prove a significant beneficial effect of Memantine therapy in our group of patients. Improvement of ERPs (shortening of P300 peak latency by at least 20 ms) occurred in 42% of patients. On the other hand, Memantine therapy led in 52% of patients to transitory decline of motion processing (delay of N2 peak latency of the motion-onset VEPs by at least 10 ms after the first 3 months of therapy, followed by return to pre-therapy values in next 3 months).
