Description
  • Diffuse pulmonary ossification is characterized by widespread heterotopic bone formation within pulmonary parenchymal tissue. Diffuse pulmonary ossification is an unusual disorder that may be idiopathic or associated with a variety of underlying disorders, including interstitial lung diseases and cardiovascular abnormalities. The clinical presentation of diffuse pulmonary ossification largely depends on the presence of any underlying disorders. Thoracic imaging studies will show variably sized high attenuation nodular opacities. The high attenuation nature of these opacities may be difficult to recognize on chest radiography, whereas thoracic computed tomography readily shows the presence of ossified pulmonary nodules. We report a patient with histopathologically proven diffuse pulmonary ossification, possibly due to a granulomatous process.
