Description	Traditional model of economic injury level (EIL) does not allow direct incorporation of aspect of the quality and safety damage (Dq) into a pest (pathogen, weed, arthropod, vertebrate) control decision-making process. This work represents an attempt to generalise a concept of EIL by (i) separation of quality and safety (i.e. Dq and EILq) and quantitative (i.e. Dw and EILw) types of damage and EIL in the tradition EIL-equation, and (ii) establishing a new way of estimation of EILq based on the penalisa tion of quality and safety damage. The importance of distinction between terms EIL, EILw and EILq is discussed and calculation of the new index (z), enabling the comparison of relative economic importance of qualitative and quantitative damage caused by a particular level of pest infestation or disease severity, is proposed.
