Description
| - The study of barren, low- and high-Au mineralized samples from Amantaytau, a shear-zone hosted gold deposit, showed that the local host rock acted as an important source of Au, As, Ni and S in the formation of the deposit. This lithogeochemical signature is also evident from the chemistry of syn-depositional pyrite in these shales, which contains average Au, As and Ni concentrations of 0.34, 1658 and 1971 ppm, respectively. Distributions of REE indicate a homogeneous source of LREE, while HREE reflect most likely primary variation in the sediments. The mineralized zone is marked by a positive Eu anomaly, which supports reducing conditions during the mineralization. The hydrothermal overprint by an aqueous and a carbonic fluid component was documented in a high-Au mineralized sample (13C = -13.0 promile). The 34S values in pyrite (–0.13 to +7.30 promile) from barren and mineralized samples are consistent with marine sulfate being a principal source of the ore sulfur. Quartz from high-Au sample contains primary inclusions of L+V type (LVR=0.9) which represent H2O-rich inclusions with Th = 178-192°C and salinity from 1.4 to 2.2 wt.% NaCl eq. Oxygen isotope study of quartz from barren, low- to high-Au mineralized samples gave homogeneous values in the range from 16.50 to 18.60 promile. 18Ofluid calculated at Th 220°C = 6.0-8.1 promile is consistent with hydrothermal origin of fluids while at Th 400°C = 12.0-14.1 promile, suggesting metamorphic origin of fluids.
