Description
(cs)
  • The neurophysiological assessment of patients with spondylotic cervical spinal cord compression is mostly based on somatosensory and motor evoked potentials studies (SEP and MEP). Previous studies in patients with intramedullary spinal cord lesions of different etiology suggest that testing of cutaneous silent period (CSP) may be useful. However, CSP has not yet been systematically reported in cervical myelopathy. We studied CSP in 10 patients with multilevel cervical compressive spondylotic myelopathy documented by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We recorded CSPs in abductor pollicis brevis muscle following digit II stimulation. CSP abnormalities (absence or shortening) were detected in 9 patients. Our data confirm that CSP is another sensitive parameter of spinal cord dysfunction and might be used in assessment of intramedullar spinal pathology.
