Description	Telomere reduction seems to be a common feature of advanced forms of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). In early forms of MDS are shortened telomeres associated with significantly higher incidence of chromosomal aberrations and inversely correlated with anumber of bone marrow blast cells. As survival was significantly shorter in MDS patients with telomere erosion than in thosewith normal telomere length, TRF measured in early stages of the disease constitutes an additional prognostic factor helping to choose an optimal therapy for various risk groups of MDS patients. U včasných forem MDS jsou zkrácené teloméry spojené se signifikantně vyšším výskytem chromosomových aberací a jsou negativně korelované s počtem blastických buněk v kostní dřeni. Protože pacienti se zkrácenými telomérami mají signifikantně kratší dobu přežití než pacienti s normální délkou telomér, stanovování TRF v buňkách kostní dřeně poskytuje další prognostický faktor MDS.
