Description
  • We evaluated the longitudinal changes in basal metabolic rate (BMR) and the relationship between BMR and mortality in 972 healthy male participants of the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging. BMR was a significant risk factor for mortality independent of secular trends in mortality and other risk factors, such as age, body mass index, smoking, white blood cell count, and diabetes. Blunted age-related decline in BMR was associated with higher mortality.

  • Práce studovala longitudinální změny rychlosti bazálního metabolismu (BMR) a vztah mezi BMR a mortalitou u 972 zdravých účastníků Baltimorské longitudinální studie stárnutí. BMR byl signifikantní rizikový faktor mortality, nezávisle na věku, BMI, kouření, počtu leukocytů či diabetu. Nedostatečný věkem-podmíněný pokles BMR byl spojen se zvýšenou mortalitou. (cs)
