| - In the litoral zone of the Vltava River, changes in the abundance of young-of-the-year fish (YOY) were linked to abiotic factors and the presence of potential predators. During the diel period, abundance of YOY varied. In early summer and autumn, YOY abundance was more affected by potential predators when compared with late summer. This suggests that diel changes of YOY abundance in the littoral zone were primarily related to ontogenetic development. No relationship was found between roach abundance in the period betwwen June and September and their length. In the poorly structured littoral zone of the channelised river, no long-term refugia for juvenile fish were available and no shifts in abundance of juvenile fish with time were observed.
