Description
  • Wetlands are considered as one of the most valuable ecosystems on the Earth. Bedises many functions which were recongnized in the past (such as productivity connected with staple food or flood control) other functions have been recognized only recently. The project will focus on the carbon sequestration in peat bogs where productivity is usually much higher than decomposition. The project will also examine the retention of nutrients in floodplains and wet meadows from the surface waters. The most important part of the project is the evaluation of the soil accretion rate which is crucial for the evaluatzon of the total stored carbon and nutrients. The accretion will be evaluated on the basis of cesium 137 analysis which enables to determine annual accretion rate. (en)

  • During the period of 2009-2012, six localities in the Czech Republic and ten localities in the United States were monitored. In the Czech Republic, peat bogs, wet meadows and floodplains were selected. The accumulation rate of carbon varied between 11 g C m-2yr-1 at Stropnice floodplain and 175 g C m-2yr-1 at Široké blato peat bog, the highest value out of all 17 monitored localities. (en)
  • V průběhu let 2009-2012 bylo sledováno celkem 6 lokalit v České republice a deset lokalit ve Spojených Státech. V České republice byly zkoumány rašeliniště, niva řeky a mokré louky. Rychlost kumulace uhlíku kolísala od 11 g /m2 rok na lokalitě Stropnice až do hodnoty 175 g C/m2 rok na lokalitě Široké blato, což byla nejvyšší hodnota ze 17 sledovaných lokalit v České republice a Spojených Státech.
