  • The main objective of the project GMS_BANK is research related to consistent, preventive and financially reasonable flood control based on regular inspections of line water management bodies and employment of innovative Geophysical Monitoring System (GMS), including draft of processing of database and electronic map for the needs of technical safety supervision in the river basin area or region concerned. The majority of flood control dikes have been built up, using soils of various geotechnical properties; often of unknown origin. As regards earth dams and dikes built up during the past centuries, the documentation of their construction and characteristics of used materials are only seldom available. Experience gained during the disastrous floods in the past decade shows that ageing of water management structures intended to regulate surface water movements leads to an increasing probability of their failure.
