Description
  • The purpose of the Daya Bay experiment is to measure energy spectra of electron anti-neutrinos from one of the world largest nuclear reactor complex in Daya Bay in southern China. Such measurements performed in 2011 and 2012 led to the discovery of a deficit of the electron anti-neutrino flux at ~2 km distances from the reactor. The deficit is caused by neutrino oscillations. The discovery of the Daya Bay experiment is very important for current and future neutrino experiments. It is a gateway to the search for the charge-parity violation in neutrino oscillations, which is believed to be associated with the matter-antimatter asymmetry puzzle in our universe. The result of the Daya Bay experiment is listed among the most important discoveries of the whole science. Although the Daya Bay results are the most precise among other experiments, they are still limited by statistical uncertainty that will be reduced by more data taken in next years. World-wide highest statistics of neutrino interactions will allow also for many more interesting physics analyses. Charles University team participates in the Daya Bay project since 2006. The team consists of two experienced senior physicists and two PhD students. They contributed to the construction of muon detector of the Daya Bay experiment, took part in the detector maintenance and operation. The team also participated in the data analysis; they investigated the cosmic rays induced background, calibration of the detector. Members of the Czech team are also interested in the analysis of new so called non-standard neutrino interactions. The common project within the Czech-Chinese scientific and technological cooperation will allow completing of mutually beneficial collaboration of Chinese and CZ teams in the prestigious Daya Bay neutrino experiment.
