Description
| - The stromatactis cavities are present in fine-grained carbonate sediments in the nature, forming the specific shapes and reticulate arrays. However, the mechanisms behind the origin of these cavities are subjects of heated discussions in geology for 125 years. Numerous biotic and abiotic factors were considered, but with unclear results. Most recently, our team produced a critical analysis of these sedimentary structures and formulated a new hypothesis that these cavities would likely originate during the rapid deposition of extremely polydisperse and multimodal granular mixtures. Although the first experiments simulated the production of these cavities with a considerably high level of similarity, there is a lot of work to be done if we wish really explain these unique phenomena in terms of hydrodynamics. The proposed interdisciplinary study is novel, and the results would be fundamental for sedimentology and hydrodynamics, with possible implications in related technologies. (en)
- Stromataktové dutiny jsou přítomny v jemnozrnných karbonátových usazeninách v přírodě, tvoříce osobité tvary a sítovitá seskupení. Nicméně mechanizmy stojící za vznikem těchto dutin jsou předmětem prudkých diskuzí v geologii už 125 let. Dosud se zvažovaly četné biotické a abiotické faktory, ovšem s nejasnými výsledky. Velice nedávno náš tým provedl kritický rozbor těchto sedimentárních staveb a formuloval novou hypotézu, že tyto dutiny by mohly nejspíše vznikat během rychlého ukládání vyjímečně polydisperzních a multimodálních zrnitých směsí. Ačkoliv první experimenty napodobily tvorbu těchto dutin se značně vysokou úrovní podobnosti, existuje zde stále ještě mnoho další práce, která musí být učiněna, jestliže chceme tyto unikátní jevy skutečně vysvětlit ve smyslu hydrodynamiky. Navrhovaná interdisciplinární studie je zcela neotřelá a původní, a výsledky studie mohou být zásadní pro sedimentologii (geologii) i hydrodynamiku (fyziku), s možnými implikacemi v souvisejících technologiích.
