Description
  • A number of exogenous chemical compounds (xenobiotics) continuously affects the human organism, some of them cause the damage of DNA, or proteins. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are important pollutants, that are adsorbed to respirable air particles (<2.5 u.m) resulted from processes of incomplete combustion. These xenobiotics can be received even by the food chain. Some of PAHs have been identified as possible carcinogens to humans. Biomarkers are defined as indicators of exposure and effect of xenobiotics on human organism. Heat shock proteins have been found to be very sensitive biomarkers of environmental pollution, hsp32 protein is important for the degradation of heme to bilirubin; its expression is induced for example by cytochrome P450. This cytochrome is induced after the exposure to PAHs. hsp70 proteins help to repair denatured, or abnormal proteins, they also stabilize proteins.
