Palaeotropical genus Scotophilus belongs to the most complicated groups of bats of the family Vespertilionidae. Taxonomic and systematic relationships in the genus are controversial and species poorly defined. Particular forms are assigned to these species rather intuitively. In the project, with the use of molecular-genetic methods, diversity will be assessed and phylogeny of the genus reconstructed with emphasis on little surveyed West African populations. Phylogeographic pattern of widely distributed species will be assessed. In potentially cryptic forms, their taxonomic status will be stated. In a summarizing analysis of all available African populations, intrageneric phylogeny will be adjusted, as well as phylogenetic relationships to other groups of the family Vespertilionidae in West Africa and in whole cosmopolitan area. S využitím fylogenetických metod na základě sekvencí jednoho mitochondriálního a dvou jaderných markerů vyhodnotit fylogenetické vztahy v rodu Scotophilus a odhadnout fylogeografický vzorec široce rozšířených druhů. Dále odhalit potenciálně kryptické formy a určit jejich taxonomický status.
