Description
  • Phase change materials (PCMs) show a unique combination of properties which is scientifically interesting and technologically important: their amorphous and crystalline phases differ remarkably by optical and electronic properties. Recently, these differences have been attributed to a pronounced change in chemical bonding upon crystallization. It appears that the bonding type and crystalline structure have a profound impact upon electronic transport. In the present project we aim at an in-depth understanding of the charge transport. To this end, a powerful combination of experimental techniques will be employed to study transport in selected materials in the relevant phases. Both steady-state conduction experiments and time-resolved (optical pump-THz probe) studies probing the ultrafast time response of photoexcited charge carriers will be employed to identify the transport mechanisms. This will enable the design of PCMs with tailored transport properties. In addition, an in-depth understanding of the impact of chemical bonding on electronic transport properties will be obtained.   • Cílem výzkumu je studium mechanismů elektronového transportu v chalkogenidových sloučeninách vykazujících fázové změny mezi amorfní a krystalickou fází, zejména metodami terahertzové spektroskopie v časové oblasti. Výzkum bude probíhat v těsné spolupráci s partnerským pracovištěm RWTH Aachen (SRN).
