Description
| - The study on the structure of faunas and processes responsible for their diversification is important for understanding the impact of environmental changes and for strategies, which may preserve both species and phylogenetic diversity. The hyper-diverse net-winged beetles Metriorrhynchini (Coleoptera: Lycidae) will be used as a model. As a basis for the evolutionary part of the study three mitochondrial and two nuclear fragments will be sequenced and the GMYC method will be used for species delineation. The results will be related to morphological definitions. We will construct phylogenetic trees under various optimality criteria and several methods will be used for dating of major events. We intend to produce profound insights into the geographic origins, dispersal history and diversification processes of fauna dispersing among the continents rimming the Indian Ocean. We will try to generalize which regions house the rapidly dispersing lineages, which factors may support diversification and which may prevent lineages from evolutionary success or cause mass extinctions. - Pro pochopení dopadu enviromentálních změn na diversitu a stanovení strategií ochrany taxonomické i fylogenetické diversity potřebujeme poznat strukturu fauny a evoluční procesy, které vytvořily dnešní diversitu. Velmi druhově početný tribus Metriorrhynchini (Coleoptera: Lycidae) bude použitý jako model pro studium diversifikace v oblasti Afriky, Asie a Austrálie, která dříve tvořila část kontinentu Gondwana. Jako základ pro evolučně zaměřenou část projektu budou sekvenovány tři mitochondriální a dva jaderné fragmenty DNA pro více než 500 druhů. Následně GMYC metoda bude použita pro delimitaci druhů a výsledky srovnány s morfologickým signálem. Budou zkonstruovány fylogenetické stromy za použití více kritérií optimality a pomocí několika metod budou datována významná štěpení a testována jejich souvislost s tektonickými událostmi. Cílem je získání robustních informací o vzniku hlavních linií a historii šíření skupiny mezi kontinenty. Na základě modelové skupiny chceme popsat hlavní faktory vedoucí ke vzniku mimořádné diversity nebo náchylnosti linie k vymírání.

| - Oba cíle projektu (1) popis fylogeneze Metriorrhynchini a (2) jejich fylogeografie byly dosaženy souborem publikací, popisujících nové taxony, revidující taxony různého ranku i syntetického charakteru. Ze 22 článků publikovaných nebo přijatých, 3 patří mezi vysoce kvalitní, 12 mezi kvalitní a 7 do třetího kvantilu daného oboru. (cs)
- Both aims of the project (1) investigation of the phylogeny of Metriorrhynchini and (2) phylogeography of Metriorrhynchini were sufficiently reached. The output of the project is composed of reports of new taxa, revision of taxa of various lower taxonomic rank and two synthetic publications. Of the 22 IF papers published or accepted, 3 rank into Q1, 12 into Q2 and 7 into Q3 journal. (en)
