| Description
| - We wish to explore the richness and variety of conceptions of consciousness in different thinkers in three periods: early modern philosophy, German idealism and contemporary analytic philosophy. Our investigation into the diverse ways of understanding consciousness is not an end in itself. The goal of the project is, rather, the constructive one of returning to the various philosophical disputes about consciousness, informed by the diverging conceptions that they arise from. We aim to appreciate the philosophical significance of questioning the assumption that there is a single datum marked by the term consciousness. The results of the historical part will be particularly focused on distinguishing two different strands in early modern philosophy and idealist approaches to consciousness: the intellectualist and the phenomenal. The contemporary scene will be mapped in terms of three approaches: the non-reductive stance, the evolutionary account and cognitivist skepticism. (en)
- Chceme prozkoumat rozdílné koncepce vědomí, s nimiž přišli různí myslitelé ve třech odlišných historických obdobích: raně moderní filosofii, německém idealismu a současné analytické filosofii. Naše zkoumání různých pojetí vědomí není samoúčelné. Cíl projektu je spíše konstruktivní; jde nám o nové promyšlení různých filosofických sporů ohledně pojmu vědomí, poučené rozdílnými koncepcemi, z nichž tyto spory pramení. Chceme zdůraznit filosofický význam skutečnosti, že se vzdáváme předpokladu nějaké určité danosti, označované výrazem "vědomí". Výstupy historické části se soustředí na odlišné proudy v raně moderní filosofii a na idealistiké přístupy k vědomí. Současná scéna bude zmapována z hlediska tří přístupů: nereduktivního pojetí, evolučního pojetí a kognitivně-skeptického přístupu.
