Description
| - Minerals of tourmaline group serve as suitable geochemical indicators of compositional evolution in various rocks chiefly due to their ability to incorporate high number of elements, stability in wide PTX-conditions, and refractory behavior. Nevertheless, tourmalines are commonly incompletely chemically characterized (presence of light elements - H, Li, B, valence of Fe, Mn). Moreover, their chemical composition is also influenced by crystal-structural constraints. We will study selected minerals of tourmaline group from geological environments with specific chemical compositions to reveal extent of crystal-structural control on chemical composition in these particular cases and to introduce general discussion of this factor as a routine part of geochemical and petrological applications. With respect to piezoelectric, pyroelectric and additional specific properties of tourmaline group minerals a set of experiments designed to specify a role of Fe (oxidation state, structural position) in order to facilitate potential application of this mineral in industry will be performed.
