Description	Allochthonous sika deer (Cervus nippon) has been introduced to the Czech Republic since the end of 19th century and at the beginning of 20th century (records on origin of introduced individuals are missing). At the present sika deer is no longer kept only in enclosures, it became a part of our fauna, and established several feral populations. These present a real danger for autochthonous population of red deer (Cervus elaphus) not only because of the food and space competition but especially because of introgression of sika deer genes to gene pool of red deer population due to their hybridization. The aim of proposed project is the analysis of genetic structure of sika deer population (mtDNA, microsatellite loci), on which there is no available data. Further, we aim to identify the origin of introduced animals, and the relationship of established populations with recognized subspecies. Using polymorphic microsatellite loci we will assess the degree of hybridisation between sika and red deer in free-living populations as well as individuals kept in enclosures. Particular suggestions for nature conservation and hunting management of both species will be part of the project`s outcome. (en) 1.
