| Description
| - The study of the role of free radicals in regulation of senescence in plants. Mechanisms of ageing are of basic biological significance. The currently widely accepted theory of ageing is based on the action of free radicals. However, their role in plantageing is relatively less well known. We suggest that induction of plant senescence is in relation to free radical reactions and their products. For elucidation of this theory, we will investigate accumulation and characteristics of free radical productsand activities of antioxidative system (enzymatic and low-molecular). Further, regulation of leaf senescence induction will be studied using genetically manipulated plants with changed concentration of growth regulators cytokinins. Some of the hormonescontrolling senescence induction, namely ethylene, are directly connected to free radical reactions. Its effects might be modulated by nitric oxide and related compounds. - Studium úlohy volných radikálů v regulaci senescence u rostlin. Otázky mechanismů stárnutí mají základní biologický význam. V současnosti nejvíce přijímanou je teorie stárnutí založená na působení volných radikálů. Jejich úloha při stárnutí rostlin jevšak mnohem méně prostudována. Předpokládáme, že navození rostlinné senescence souvisí s reakcemi volných radikálů a jejich produktů. Pro objasnění této teorie budeme sledovat hladiny a charakteristiky produktů volných radikálů a aktivity antioxidačníhosystému (enzymového a nízkomolekulárního). Dále bude studována regulace indukce senescence listu s využitím geneticky manipulovaných rostlin se změněnou koncentrací růstových regulátorů cytokininů. Některé z hormonů řídících indukcí senescence, hlavněetylén, přímo souvisí s reakcemi volných radikálů. Jeho účinky mohou být ovlivňovány oxidem dusnatým a odvozenými sloučeninami. Budeme zkoumat změny v tvorbě etylénu, induktoru senescence, ve vztahu k produkci oxidu dusnatého. Souhrn získaných výsledků
