| Description
| - Increased dietary K+ intake belongs to important components of antihypertensive therapy. There are several unresolved questions a) the difference in mechanisms of preventive and therapeutic action of high K+ intake, b) the effect of high K+ intake in salt-sensitive and -resistant animals, c) the effects of high K+ intake in relation to the age and/or hypertension stage. Using rats with salt or genetic hypertension we would like to elucidate 1) mechanisms of age-dependent antihypertensive action of high K+ intake, namely the role of sympathetic nervous system and NO, 2) therapeutic effects of high K+ intake in young and adult rats with established hypertension, 3) role of enhanced superoxide production at normal or high K+ intake, 4) antihypertensive effects of high K+ intake during chronic blockade of NO synthase or NADPH oxidase, and 5) influence of K+ depletion on the activity of various K+ channels involved in the control of smooth muscle tone in resistance vessels. Our results might contribute to the rationalization of antihypertensive therapy in particular forms of hypertension. (en)
- Cílem tohoto projektu je objasnit mechanismy věkově závislého preventivního a terapeutického účinku vysokého příjmu K+ u různých forem hypertenze, se zřetelem k úloze sympatiku, oxidu dusnatého, nadprodukce superoxidů a vybraných draslíkových kanálů účastnících se kontroly tonu odporových cév.
