Species traits respond in predictable way to environmental conditions (response traits) and affect the functioning of ecological communities (effect traits). Owing to the feedback between soil and plant community it is difficult to demonstrate clear causal relationships between plant species traits and soil processes from observational studies. Here we propose to use our already existing long-term removal experiments with the species/trait composition directly manipulated to test hypotheses about the effect of traits on selected ecosystem functions and properties. We propose to study the response to the target community trait distribution (aggregated averages and functional diversity) of the following community and ecosystem properties: (1) soil chemistry and microbial community parameters; (2) AM fungi species composition; (3) invasion resistance to native species not present in the community. The results will be interpreted in terms of recent ecological theories on relationships between functional diversities of various trophic levels of ecosystem, and their effects on ecosystem functions and their stability. V tomto projektu navrhujeme použít rostlinná společenstva z dříve založených pokusů s odstraňováním druhů (dlouhodobé pokusy, společenstva mají dnes stabilizované druhové složení) pro testy hypotéz o vlivu vlastností druhů na následující parametry celého společenstva neba na jiné složky ekosystému: (1) chemické vlastnosti půdy a vlastnosti půdního mikrobiálního společenstva; (2) složení a funkční charakteristiky společenstva mykorrhizních hub; (3) rezistenci společenstva k invazi dalších původních druhů.
(cs)
Project brings significant results concerning methodological approaches to ecology of plant communities and to their ecology itself on the basis of field research, manipulative experiments and modelling. Project is remarcable by hich number of publications in international journals of hich scientific quality. (en)
