Description
| - The project is expected to reveal a detailed information on geographic location and structure of range margins of model species of bats in the Eastern Mediterrranean region, including details on variation specificities of the marginal populations (genetic struture, phenotypic variation, habitat preferences and biological specificities), biogeography of the chorologic transitions and the background factors responsible for the dynamics of respective range margins. With aid of mitochondrial and nuclear sequence data we will characterize the marginal populations in regard to phylogenetic architecture of respective species, estimate time of divergences separating particular marginal populations (with aid of molecular clock technique) and discuss possible sorting events and limiting factors. Comparisons of different species should reveal the common background factors responsible for dynamics of range margins in the region and the biogeographic discontinuities substructuring the incipient biodiversity of the Mediterranean hot-spot. - Projekt má poskytnout detailní informace o struktuře areálových hranic netopýrů v mediteránní oblasti a specifikách vnitropopulační proměnlivosti okrajových populací (genotypická struktura, fenotypová specifika, stanovištní nároky). S využitím mitochodriálních i jaderných markerů bude analyzována míra divergence jednotlivých okrajových populací a korelativními postupy zkoumána role různých faktorů v dynamice příslušných areálových okrajů. Srovnání poměrů u jednotlivých modelových druhů umožní pak vymezit míru obecnosti jednotlivých vlivů a charakterisovat rovněž zóny areálové diskontinuity strukturující geografický rámec biodiversity Mediterránu.

(cs)
- The project resulted in important findings in the field of population genetics and phylogeography of bat, such as extreme diversity in the populations at margins of distributional ranges, or new zone of endemism discovered in the Dhofar region. Eighteen bat species were newly defined and distributional ranges, including phylogenetic limits, within the Mediterranean fauna were made more precise. (en)
