| Description
| - The project aims to answer some critical questions regarding the origin, maintenance and dynamics of contact zones of various cytotypes. Using Gymnadenia conopsea as a model plant system, we will address the origin and further differentiation of the cytotype mixture, and explore various reproductive isolating mechanisms (both pre- and post-zygotic) that allow maintenance of intrapopulational ploidy heterogeneity. Individual work-packages will focus on assessing (i) the ecological displacement and flowering time asynchrony among cytotypes, (ii) the ploidy-driven phenotypic differentiation, (iii) the role of pollinator-mediated assortative mating, and (iv) the siring success of pollen with different ploidy levels. The response of particular cytotypes to symbiotic mycorrhizal fungi will also be evaluated. A special attention will be paid to the role of reinforcement in reproductive isolation in ploidy-mixed populations. The data gained will provide valuable information on the genesis and maintenance of ploidy diversity in wild populations. (en)
- Projekt se zabývá studiem mikroevolučních procesů, které probíhají ve smíšených populacích více cytotypů. Na příkladu modelového druhu Gymnadenia conopsea, u něhož byl zaznamenán nezvykle častý společný výskyt různých ploidních úrovní, bude detailně studována evoluční historie kontaktních zón a provedeno komplexní zhodnocení reprodukčně-izolačních mechanismů podílejících se na udržení vnitro-populační cytotypové variability. Dílčí studie se zaměří na (i) (mikro)ekologickou diferenciaci a fenologický posun jednotlivých ploidních úrovní, (ii) jejich morfologickou diferenciaci, (iii) roli opylovačů v selektivním přenosu pylu a (iv) úspěšnost samčích gamet s různou ploidií. Současně bude studována cytotypová specificita odpovědi na symbiotické mykorhizní houby. Značná pozornost bude věnována otázce zesílení reprodukčních bariér ve smíšených populacích oproti populacím ploidně uniformním. Díky propojení různorodých poznatků bude možno kriticky zhodnotit, jakým způsobem je generována a nadále udržována cytotypová diverzita v přírodních populacích cévnatých rostlin.
