| Description
| - This project is aimed, to test the hypotheses on phylogeny of the beetle suborder Polyphaga (Coleoptera) and several other internal groups (Elateroidea, Cleroidea, Tenebrionoidea). To accomplish this, partial sequences of 4 selected genes will be used. Although lately published data and analyses of Coleoptera are quite large and detailed, the taxa of Elateriformia and non-herbivorous Cucujiformia are here poorly represented. Therefore, the work on the project will be focused on Elateroidea, Cleroidea, Cucujoidea, and Tenebrionoidea. Within the work on the project the amplifications and sequencing of 4 genes (18S, 28S, 16S a cox1) of the examined taxa will be undertaken, and the data matrices will be assembled. These data will be analysed using different criteria (maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood, Bayesian analysis). Another goal of the project is, on the basis of these phylogenetic analyses to test the hypotheses on evolution of bioluminiscence and some life strategies, namely feeding habits. Simultaneously, some taxonomic problems of selected Elateroidea groups will be resolved. The results will be published in renowned international scientific journals, and presented at European congress and international conference. (en)
