The project concentrates on specification of available water and nitrogen supply in a soil profile. The aim is to produce methodics and programme for calculation of available water supply, especially under low preciptation, that can be used in farms with commonly available data and empirical model of root system distribution. The depth and distribution of root system of winter wheat and spring barley, sunflower and potatoes will be determined under different soil-climate conditions. The models or functions describing distribution of roots in a soil profile will be validated with experimental data. Simple empirical model of limits of water depletion from subsoil zones will be formulated with the use of literature data and on the basis of root distribution, soil and meterological conditions of a site. The model will be used for calculation of available supply of water at the start of main growth period and during growth.
