Scots pine is our second most common woody species. Similarly to Norway spruce or European larch, the research in genetics and improvement of pine has been oriented to the verification of selected seed stands. Progeny trials of certified stands and those of seed orchards have been established. Seed orchards of woody plants are continuosly serving as a main tool in breeding and reproduction of forest tree species. Czech Republic is falling behind in bigger use of seed orchards in forestry practice, particularly in the direction towards second generation seed orchards, including extended testing of progenies. The goal of this research is to conduct a detail assessment of the existing progeny trials of the first generation seed orchards, and to propose the utility of these tests to selection of second generation seed orchards. Pedigree reconstruction method is proposed to achive this goal. Particularly the utilization of modern biotechnical measures eliminates timely and financially demaning procedures t (en)
