The project aims to develop new powertrain concepts with significant comtribution to CO2 emissions reduction for passenger cars and light-duty vehicles for the new vehicle fleet in 2020. The research target for SI engines is reduction CO2 emissions by 40% (in comparison to 2005), for CI engines by 20%.The objective includes also the target of near-zero emission levels (better than EURO 6) maintained during useful life of engines and keeping into account real life emissions, in line with intention to amend the test emission test procedures. 3 different concepts of engines are chosen: DISI engine with VVA and ultra-downsized by advanced turbocharging, CI two stroke engine integrating HCCI and low temperature combustion (CVUT carries on the research in this subproject) and combined combustion system for a CI engine dedicated to new fuel formulation.
