| Description
| - The main objective of this project is to build up a germ of a centre for numerically demanding computations, the lack of which is clearly felt at the University of Ostrava. Computer simulations and modellings are increasingly popular among physicists, chemists, and scientists in general. They are often used instead of much more financially demanding (or even infeasible) experiments. At present, not only qualitative, but also quantitative results can be obtained from the computer simulation providing high-tech computers (comprising powerful processors, sufficient amount of memory and disk space) are available. Quantum chemistry and many particle simulations are clear examples supporting this view. Such high-tech computers are not available at the Univ. Of Ostrava at present and due to special requirements of some computations it can only partly be substituted by using resources of other supercomputing centres in the Czech Republic. This project aims at filling this gap. (en)
- Cílem projektu je vytvořit centrum pro numericky náročné výpočty, které zatím na Ostravské univerzitě citelně chybí. Počítačové experimenty a modelování jsou stále více populární ve fyzice, chemii i v dalších přírodních, ekonomických a společenských vědách, přičemž často nahrazují finančně mnohem náročnější (nebo dokonce neproveditelné) experimenty klasické. V současnosti poskytují počítačové simulace nejen kvalitativně, ale i kvantitativně spolehlivá data. K tomu jsou ovšem zapotřebí špičkové výpočetními prostředky s dostatečným výpočetním výkonem, pamětí a odkládacím místem na pevných discích. Příkladem mohou být např. kvantově-chemické výpočty či modelování struktury nebo termodynamiky mnohočásticových soustav. Podobné vybavení v současnosti na OU chybí a díky specifickým nárokům některých výpočtů jej můžeme jen zčásti nahradit spoluprací s již vytvořenými superpočítačovými centry. Tento projekt je prvním krokem při postupném zaplnění zmíněné mezery. (cs)
