  • Folk furniture represents one of the most characteristic phenomena of the folk culture. Its development is closely related to the development of folk architecture and fireplace in the house. Folk furniture served also representative purposes and it was an object of ceremonial and customs tradition. The manufactures of folk furniture, however, have not only preserved the original tradition and they have also responded to changing trends in style and culture. The collection of folk furniture of the Ethnography Department of the National Museum, which include more than 1300 collection items, is one ot the most extensive collections of this type in the Czech Republic. This collection, has not been made accesible to interested scholars. The results of research will be used in consulting activities particularly for scholars in general, for ethno-cartographic research, publication of new knowledge and information about the collection. The output will be in the form of a database in computer. (en)
