Description	We propose to employ both quantitative and qualitative sociological methodology to investigate the relationship between maternal SES and birth outcomes during the post-communist transformation in the Czech Republic after 1989. We plan to review the sociological theory regarding social variation in pregnancy and birth outcomes and reevaluate its relevance to a post-communist society undergoing profound social and economic transformation, as little is known about the effects of social change on trends in socio-economic differences in health. We propose a combined methodological design relying on both quantitative and qualitative methods, which would enable us to describe empirically the nature and the size of SES differentials in birth outcomes, test statistically for trend in social disparities in birth outcomes, identify macro-social and other factors influencing birth outcomes and more precisely interpret the mechanisms, which mediate and explain the relationship between SES and (en) V tomto projektu navrhujeme studovat pomocí kvantitativní i kvalitativní sociologické metodologie souvislost mezi sociálním postavením matek a výsledky jejich těhotenství a porodu v ČR po r. 1989. Chceme se zaměřit zejména na sociologicky relevantní vysvětlení tohoto vztahu, na empirický popis sociálních nerovností v průběhu těhotenství, úspěšném donošení plodu a zdraví narozeného dítěte, a na teoretické zdůvodnění a empirickou identifikaci trendů ve vztahu mezi sociálním postavením matek a výsledkyjejich těhotenství a porodu. Navrhujeme použití kombinované metodologie, která umožní tyto vztahy nejen empiricky popsat a statisticky identifikovat změny v čase v souvislosti mezi sociálním statusem matek a výsledky těhotenství a porodu, ale umožní i přesněji identifikovat makrosociální a jiné faktory ovlivňující průběh a výsledek těhotenství a porodu a rovněž nám dovolí lépe interpretovat mechanismy, jimiž sociální status působí na výsledky těhotenství a porodu v konkrétním sociálním a (cs)
