Use of heavy liquid metals (HLM), such as lead-bismuth eutectic and lead, is foreseen for targets and coolants in the newly designed accelerator driven systems (ADS). However, most of the structural materials suffer severe damage when in contact with theHLM. The high dissolution rate of alloying elements such as nickel, chromium as does iron in the liquid metals (LM) is a major limit to steels application. However, introduction of controlled amount of oxygen in the system can improve the materials resistance, due to the growth of protective oxide scales. The mechanism of oxidation for three commercial steels will be investigated and compared to the gaseous oxidation, in order to identify the main causes of failures and the possibility of resistance improvements by dosing the oxygen dissolved in the LM. Microstructure and alloying elements variations will be investigated to ascertain their main role in the oxidation process. In addition to dissolution, the materials undergo mechanical (en)
Za účelem zjištění příčin poškození v těžkých tekutých kovech a studia možnosti zvýšení odolnosti materiálů optimalizací dávkování kyslíku rozpuštěného v tekutém kovu bude hodnocen mechanismus oxidace v tekutých kovech u tří vybraných komerčně používaných ocelí a porovnán s mechanismem oxidace v plynném prostředí.
