Description
  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of addition of fillers on the tribological properties of the polymer blends of high density polyethylene and polypropylene (PE/PP blends). Various types of fillers such as graphite, molybdenum disulfide, and PTFE, glass fiber, rubber powder, organic fillers, and so on were used as solid lubricants. These composites were extruded by a twin extruder and injection-molded. Tribological properties were measured by a ring-on-plate and ball-on-plate type sliding wear tester under dry condition. It was found that the effect of addition of fillers on the tribological properties of PE/PP blends is different according to the type of fillers and wear mode. Especially, PTFE and nutshell powder (NSP) are effective for reducing the wear resistance in initial wear mode.
