Description
  • Sodium and potassium titanates were prepared by a microwave-assisted molten-salt synthesis. This approach proviedes simple control over the morphology of synthetized materials and, moreover, the duration of the synthesis is significantly reduced in comparison to the conventional procedures, while the prepared particles exhibit properties similar to those one's prepared by conventional processes. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to study titanates particles morphology and crystalline phase, respectively. In addition, prepared particles were mixed with silicone oil and used as electrorheological fluids whose dielectric spectra and rheological properties in the presence and in the absence of an electric field were investigated. Both prepared suspensions exhibited nearly Newtonian behavior in the absence of electric field; however, the suspensions behaved as Bingham fluids with considerably high yield stresses under applied electric field.
