  • Contemporary business market environment is strongly globalized and competitive. The one from many results of world globalization trend is that material flows are getting more and more bulky inside particular complex supply chains. All companies of varied industries are striving to manage their material flows and related logistics activities in cost and eco-friend effective way. Companies are aware to reach required competitiveness level, they have to develop precise logistics management system to plan, manage and control all material flows and logistics activities concerning their business. They have to have well-developed logistics management system of purchasing, production, warehousing, packaging, distribution and reverse material flows. Nowadays it’s turning out that the right managerial decisions should be based on accurate demand forecast. Demand pattern drives all logistics activities in a supply chain and it’s therefore crucial for effective logistics management in cost and eco-friend effective way. The paper deals with very up-to-date topic how to effectively plan, manage and control huge material flows and related logistics activities within the frame of logistics management of a company. For right setting of logistics measures or in wider context supply chain metrics it’s necessary to have high accurate demand forecast of a final product, semi-finished product or raw material. Thus a demand forecasting system is fundamental tool to get initial data to make logistics managerial decisions in a right way. In the paper is briefly described a methodology to design basic forecasting system of an independent demand which can be applied in any company of any industry. Subsequently is stated a case study, the methodology is applied in the biggest Czech food company HAME, Ltd. to design forecasting system of independent demand of final product assortment.
