Description
| - Research, which is presented in this paper, is based on a positive view of workers ages 50+ and on the aspect of their knowledge and qualification which is still often overlooked and undervalued. Knowledge and skills as an important part of older workers qualification represent a large part of their work potential. Thanks to years of experience, workers ages 50+ possess such knowledge and skills (know-how) which are crucial to the organizations development and success. Considering the fact that older workers possess companys essential knowledge, practices of knowledge management should be focused also on these workers. With respect to this fact inasmuch as knowledge management has its human (social) dimension, knowledge management may be seen as a part of strategic human resource management within the company. The aim of this paper is to present the survey results and to answer how employees ages 50+ perceive older workers knowledge in terms of value for the organization, what they think about the possibility of older workers training and development, and how they look at older workers retirement. Several additional topics are discussed as well, e.g. possibility of older workers career progression or their willingness to learn from younger ones. Results of the survey show that younger workers consider older workers to be valuable companys resource. Their opinion about older workers training and development is not so positive. Survey results try to break down the stereotypes against older workers in society and they also represent a useful part of a pilot research within authors dissertation focusing on knowledge management (as a part of human resource management) among workers ages 50+. The paper is related to the authors involvement in the grant project TAČR OMEGA TD No. 010129, Performance potential of workers ages 50+ and specific forms of human resource management in company.
