Description
  • Tomas Bata (1876 – 1932) was a Czech entrepreneur who founded a shoe company in 1894. Over the years, the company had grown into a shoe empire of transnational scale. Not only in the Czech Republic but also in the world, Bata`s business philosophy has been perceived as timeless. Currently, the philosophy is called Bata Management System. Nowadays, many companies have been trying to implement principles of the system into their own business strategies. Nevertheless, what is missing to implement the strategy effectively is a study that would accurately define the principles on which the system operated and which could be applied in the presence. This paper presents results of research focusing on analysing the Bata Management System before 1945 (prior to the nationalization by the Communist Party). Primarily, the research is based on archival documents related to the Bata Company. Using an extensive analysis, fundamental aspects of the system are defined. The results of this historical data study lead to a draft for the application model. The model specifically determines how to implement each policy of the system in order to achieve more efficient operation in any company. Proposed model was applied to selected manufacture companies in the Czech Republic. A measurement was carried out before and after the implementation of the model. The research revealed interesting results showing that through implementation of Bata Management System it is possible to innovate manufacture companies as well as any others. The research included an extensive measurement of selected indicators of economic and manufacturing efficiency, as well as the basis of questionnaire survey among employees. The research was evaluated using statistical methods. The research has proved that Bata Management System before 1945 had surpassed present requirements of CSR by its strict conditions.
