| - Rapidly changing age structure of the population is nowadays one of the main themes of discussions in Europe, but also in other countries all around the world. Population has been getting older during the last years and in addition, the predictions, mentioned in several studies, show that these trends will be continuing in the future. For example the global AXA study (2008a) indicates that there will be 13% of the population in the age over 65 years old in 2030. It is impossible to overlook these changes because they are related to several issues including economic, health, community and social problems. It is extremely important that govemment as well as local or international organizations confront these problems and try to find the appropriate solutions. Many organizations and institutions are aware of the importance of ageing, especially being active in the elder age. To illustrate this statement, the European Union announced year 2012 as the European Year for Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity between Generations. (Baresova, 2012) This paper focuses on analysing the age structure in Hradec Kralové and finding out their preferences in the leisure activities. This work is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part is talked about the demographic changes in the Europe and the Czech Republic, characteristics of elder generation and last but not least about the older generation attitude to the leisure activities and their preferences. In the analytical part are firstly analysed the demographic situation in Hradec Kralove. Then there indicates the satisfaction with free time by older population and their preferences in leisure activities.
