Description
  • Studies reveal the significance of 'study processes' of students during the various phases of education. The objective of the study was to examine the study process and academic performances of Czech high school students. Sixty four high school students (31 girls, and 33 boys) were randomly selected from three high schools in Zlin, Czech Republic. The study process of respondents was measured by employing the 'revised two-factor Study Process Questionnaire' of Biggs et.al (2001). Descriptive and inferential analysis of data was conducted using the SPSS software. The Study Approaches, Study Motives, and Study Strategies employed by respondents during the study process were examined. High school students had focused more on 'surface' study approaches, motives, and strategies over 'deep' study approaches, motives, and strategies. High school girls secured higher grades and superior academic performances over boys. The improved adoption of deeper study process methodologies by the high school girls may have resulted in their superior academic performances over the boys. It is premature and imprudent to comment on the respondents' choice of 'study process' in the absence of details of assessment techniques employed by the teachers, and education systems. Study highlights the necessity of defining, and applying appropriate study processes for vitality of education.
