Description
  • Increasing local data repositories’ security are hampered by decentralized data storages, virtualization and service-oriented architecture which make hardware- and software-level protection even more difficult. As cloud computing is gaining widespread acclaim from corporations as a cost-effective alternative to acquiring additional processing resources, the question of security is rapidly coming to the fore. While academia struggles with definition either differentiating or likening the concept to grid or other types of parallel computing model, business representatives are more interested in competitive advantages it might generate. Properties of the cloud architecture largely preclude usage of existing security practices, therefore new, unconventional methods and software need to be devised to address the predicament. Furthermore, achieving end-users’ and companies’ compliance requires considering multiple infrastructural as well as commercial factors the most prominent of which are sustainability in case of cloud-side interruptions, identity management and off-site corporate data handling policies. The article summarizes currently developing topics in the field of cloud computing, proposed definitions, and the challenges associated with its proliferation. Security and economic measures are scrutinized preferentially as to their importance to the cloud platform. Theoretically-based modifications and alterations to the system are further proposed based on these assumptions.
