  • Plastic lubricants are applied in many sectors, e. g. for lubrication of machine elements, forestry and agricultural machinery, trucks, buses, transporters etc. They belong to non-Newtonian liquids. The pressure loss determination of lubricant flow in pipes is important to assure the correct function of lubricating systems. In the case of non-Newtonian liquids, the ratio of shearing stress and shearing strain rate is variable. The dependence of shearing stress and shearing strain rate is called a flow curve or rheogram. The rheogram is experimentally determined by means of a rheometer. The lubricant type used is MOGUL EKO L1 and it belongs to non-Newtonian viscoplastic liquids. Measured rheograms are described by suitable rheological models. Thixotropy is a very important attribute of plastic lubricants. Rheological lubricant properties are changed by their mechanical stress in this case. As a result, the rheogram dependence is changed too. The aim of this work is to determine pressure losses during flow of the plastic ecological lubricant type MOGUL EKO L1 in steel pipes with two different inner pipe diameters. The pressure losses were determined by experimental measurements and subsequently compared with the application of Bingham rheological model at steady flow.
