Description
  • The objective of this study was to assess the influence of technological procedure when processing PVAL/starch blends and of content of components on biodegradability of resultant granulated materials. Tests were run on granulated materials containing 30 mass% and 60 mass% waxy starch, reference samples had the same reference content of components but waxy starch was replaced with natural maize starch meritena 100. The plasticiser employed was glycerol. Actual preparation of granulated material proceeded in one stage (twice thermal stress) or in two stages (once thermal stress, dry blends).Biodegradability of mixed granulated materials was tested under aerobic conditions. Employed inoculum was activated PVAL-adapted sludge from the municipal wastewater treatment plant. Concentration of inoculum in the reaction suspension was 500 mg l-1, concentration of substrate was 200 mg l-1. The biodegradation course was evaluated by means of produced CO2. Biological degradation of blends based on PVAL/starch prog
