Description	The durability or performance properties of steel-reinforced concrete may be significantly imparied by the aggressive effects of the ambient gaseous environment. Defects are frequently caused by a gradual loss of alkalinity in the so-called cover layer due to carbonisation. This is a reaction betwen atmospherc CO2 with the hydration products of cement, which leads to a subsequent loss of passivity in the reinfircement steel. One of the important measures that may prolong the durability of reinforced concrete structures is the application of secondary protection aimed at effectively slowing down the carbonisation process, Is following article the new experimental apparatus for detection of the resistance of some protection materials against the permeation of CO2 and some examples of experiments are shown. (en) Trvanlivost železobetonových konstrukcí je výrazně ovlivňována agresivním účinkem okolního plynného prostředí. Závady, které se projevují, jsou často způsobeny postupnou ztrátou alkality povrchové krycí vrstvy v důsledku karbonatace. Karbonatace je chemický proces mezi produkty hydratace v betonu a plynným CO2 v atmosféře. Tento proces potupně vede ke ztrátě pasivity výztuže a k její korozi. Sekundární ochrana betonu je jedním z postupů, jak procesy karbonatace zpomalit či zastavit. Kritériem účinnosti ochrany je schopnost odolávat průniku CO2 ke konstrukci. V článku jsou ukázány některé postupy hodnocení této odolnosti a konkrétní výsledky.
