Description
  • Background The aim of this study was to assess whether the use of a therapeutic laser power of 5 W could be more beneficial in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders in comparison with the performance of 50 to 150 mW, that are commonly used. The assessment was made based on findings evaluated from treatment effects among the number of necessary applications. Purpose At present, we see an increasing number of devices offered by many manufacturers for non-invasive laser therapy (running between 1 to 10W). Since the selling price is considerably higher (from 5 to 10 times) than the existing equipment it is necessary to know whether the investment return would make the venture worthwhile and viable. Material and Methods The study compared the therapeutic effect of therapeutic applications of laser diodes with a maximum power of 200 mW with a capacity of 5W. The laser was applied to both groups continuously, and at a pulse frequency of 10 Hz. An assessment of treatment duration, number of applications and the effect of treatment was then recorded. Results The study showed that higher laser power reduces the number of applications. There is no shortening of treatment, but the extension of intervals between visits to medical facilities and their number is significantly lower for patient benefit. Also, the treatment effect is greater at higher power. The choice of continuous or pulsed mode application depends on the display group. Discussion and Conclusion Using a laser with an output greater than 1 W is an excellent treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. With a significantly lower number of visits, a patient is able to obtain better therapeutic results, which is economically advantageous, reducing the workload of staff and is less trying on the patients.
