Description
| - A multistage photocatalytic degradation process combining photocatalytic degradation of organic complexes and complexants (citric acid, oxalic acid) followed by separation of radionuclides by ion exchange was developed and tested for the treatment of the following complexe wastes: 1) The real spent acidic decontamination solution from the AP - CITROX process generated during the steam generator decontamination in nuclear power plant Dukovany, Czech Republic. 2) A model solution, simulating the real spent solution from electrochemical decontamination. Both the oxalic and citric acids were quantitatively degraded within 10-12 hours of irradiation by 254 nm UV radiation in the presence of TiO2 photocatalyst. The degradation of complexants (EDTA, citric acid) accompanied by metal ions release is carried out by oxidative attack of -OH radicals - the most powerful oxidizing primary radiolytic product of water. Arising insoluble metal can be easily separated from the solution treated.
