Description
| - For activation cross-section data validation in the energy range relevant to the International Fusion Material Irradiation Facility, the fast neutron sources were developed utilizing the NPI variable-energy isochronous cyclotron U-120M, namely the quasi-monoenergetic p-7Li neutron source and white-spectrum p-D2O neutron source. The white-spectrum neutron source is used for integral benchmark experiments. The heavy water target with source reaction p+D2O was selected instead of the thick beryllium target to avoid problems with an operation with toxic beryllium materials. It was found that the deuteron break-up process induced by 37 MeV protons on flowing heavy water target produces neutron white-spectrum with high intensity, mean energy of 14 MeV and spectrum extending to 32 MeV.
