Description
  • Lyoluminescence (LL) is the during dissolution of irradiated organic (e.g. carbohydrates) or inorganic solids (e.g. alkalihalides) in suitable solvents. The mechanism, proposed in the case of irradiated carbohydrates and water as a solvent, assumes rapidconversion of trapped radicals containing free valence bond on carbon atom to peroxyradicals via addition of oxygen dissolved in water. These peroxy radicals disproportionate by recombination, yielding oxygen and carbonyl compound, that can be formed in an excited state and emit quanta of light. The LL process can such a way release a part of the stored radiation energy by light emission. It's possible to measure the kinetic parameters: correlation between concentration of paramagnetic centers and LL y ield of organic compound in presence of some anions demonstrated the possibility of measuring relative rate constants of some reactions.
